The drive to Murree runs along the Islamabad Expressway to the Faizabad Interchange, then onto Murree Road through Rawalpindi, and finally the Murree Expressway from Satra Meel Chowk up to Murree itself. The Islamabad Expressway alone is about 28 kilometers, running from Zero Point down to T-Chowk at Rawat (Wikipedia, Islamabad Expressway). The Murree Expressway, opened in August 2011, covers the last 90 kilometers up through Barakahu, Bhurban and Ghora Gali (Wikipedia, E75 expressway). Depending on exactly where you start in Islamabad, the total trip to Murree is roughly 60 to 70 kilometers, usually 1.5 to 2 hours outside of peak weekend traffic.
For Nathia Gali, the road continues past Murree through Jhika Gali, a junction town that gets heavy traffic in peak season and is currently being widened to ease congestion (Dawn, Jhika Gali road widening). Nathia Gali sits about 32 kilometers from Murree and about 32 kilometers from Abbottabad on the other side, at an elevation of roughly 2,410 meters (Wikipedia, Nathia Gali).

Murree’s snow season is officially announced each year, usually running from 15 December to 25 February, with entry into the town regulated once capacity is reached at the checkpoints (PropPakistani, Murree snow season advisory). During heavy snowfall, the district has advised visitors to travel in fully equipped 4x4 vehicles, keep a full fuel tank, and carry metal snow chains (Dawn, Murree tourist advisory). In January 2026, Murree received its heaviest snowfall in twenty years, and tourist travel was temporarily suspended while stranded vehicles were cleared (PropPakistani, heaviest snowfall report). A serious snowstorm in January 2022 is also part of why the district now manages winter tourist entry so carefully.

Murree’s Mall Road, originally named Jinnah Road, remains the main street for shopping and walking near the Cantonment area (Wikipedia, Murree).
